Social Justice Commission
Through Social Justice, our parish supports our values of mission and vision by responding to the call of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to promote the integration of Catholic Social Teaching into our faith and life as a parish. The four key strategies we work with are:
ONGOING SOCIAL JUSTICE PROJECTS
FAIR TRADE SALES: Through monthly sales of fairly traded products, we support small famers and safe environmental practices. (Click HERE to view items for sale and sale dates.)
LOAVES AND FISHES AT DOROTHY DAY: On a monthly basis, parishioners gather to prepare and serve a meal at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul. Cakes are also needed monthly for this meal.
HOLIDAY GIVING: Opportunities are available to share with the needy of community by donating to provide Thanksgiving baskets and holiday gifts. Christmas cookies are also collected to serve at the monthly dinner at the Dorothy Day Center.
FOOD COLLECTIONS FOR THE LOCAL FOOD SHELF: Donations of food and money are encouraged throughout the year for our local food shelf, Friends In Need. In March, a special effort is made to promote our local food shelf through the Minnesota FoodShare.
WEEKLY BULLETIN ARTICLES: Social Justice-focused articles are submitted to the weekly bulletin by commission members.
HOPE FOR THE JOURNEY HOME: A ministry of Guardian Angels Church in Woodbury, and assisted by area parishes, Hope for the Journey Home works to provide emergency shelter to families experiencing homelessness. Opportunities include serving as a Dinner Shift Host or Overnight Shift Host.
KIVA: Kiva is an international nonprofit with a mission to expand financial access to underserved communities. This is done by crowdfunding loans to address the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. By lending as little as $5, you can become a part of the solution.
